TO ammamma

u rememebr nani.. achan ``ur ponnumkandam polathe mon' stopped paddy cultivation in our field as u had to stop going to the field along with the workers as i was born. u also used to say that i was the one who made u stay in a hospital for the first time.. during my birth...

u who always wanted a girl child after two boys.. and as u said it was ur prayers that helped me born in that lovely house ten yeas after the birth of sarathettan.. and i can guess how much u would have rejoiced to know that ur son finally had a daughter..

do u remember the days when u used to give me company playing `valappottu'using the broken pieces of bangles?? and those days when u used to tell me the tales of Ramayana and mahabharatha in the evenings..

JUST for ME MY AMMAMMA

To my dearest ammamma

NANI as i used to call her

.. it for u ..no its all about u. u see even words stop flowing when i start writing abt u. i never knew that i loved u so much until amma called me on that saturday to tell me that u are sick.. though u ve been spending ur days and nights in that small room `kottilakam' of our house after your hip bone suffered a fracture one day after my degree results were announced... i never felt u could be sick and for me u wer no older than myself..

and wen amma told that u r condition was serious i felt running to u but was helpless. and with a tensed heart i some how managed to stay here for one more day.. and when i reached there on sunday.. u lookd quite fine.. but u seemed to have lost ur memories a bit.

but nani.. u could recognise my voice even when u were unconscious.. when ever u were unconscious and i called u naneeeeee or ammammee u smiled turning ur face.. but u could not open ur eyes.. but still i never felt u would leave me so soon..

and i still remember when i gave u water on that night. u were in a semiconscious state and amma and me were struggling to give u water. then i called nanee...nalla kuttiyallle... vellam kudikku.... then u turned ur head a little bit and smiled.. then in that tired voice u asked `` entha mole'' and then u smiled again.. and u drank the water too.. but ammamma i never knew that u would never again call me mole...

wen i went to my room upstairs at 11 p m after giving u water, to call ur `thalipparambu karan' achan and amma were there and they went for sleep at 11.30. and as was going to sleep after my prayers i felt like seeing u once again...

but i never knew that... wen i reached u were sleeping a peacefully as a child with a smile on ur face.. and i just called ammamme to know whether u wanted water or somthing..then u did not respond and i tried to wake u up...

but by then .. but i still feel u could here me then and u left the world only after that. i touched u kissed u but u did not respond.. and then....there was nothing left but till a few took ur worldly body away for the rites... till that moment i was trying to touch ur body ur face and i wanted to kiss u again and again becos i coud not accept the fact..and u know i ve not yet gone to the spot were ur rites were performed.. bcos how can i go der wen u r alive for me..

wen i am at work i feel noting but wen i cal amma a tend to ask hows ammamma... and then i .... and whenever i reach home and any of our relatives reach home i feel that ur still in that room chatting to all and blessing all. but wen i look into that room unknowingly to say the fact.. nani.. l feel lost.. still i know that i ve not lost any thing bur am blessed to have born the grand daughter of u...

Unravelling the mental trauma of cops

By K M Sree
Kozhikode, June 19:
An exclusive survey report revealing the mental trauma and distress experienced by
cops will soon be released by Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The detailed
study report prepared by Kozhikode Chapter of Indian Medical Association after a
scientific survey is expected to be released on July 11.
The exclusive report is being prepared after conducting a scientific survey among
more than 1000 cops in Kozhikode City limit. All cops working under the 17 Sub
Inspectors in the city were part of the survey. The officials including Circle
inspectors, Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors, Head constables and Constables
were included in the survey.
The survey was started a few months ago as joint venture by Kozhikode city police
and Indian Medical Association Kozhikode chapter on the backdrop of increasing
number of attacks against cops. Recently the violent mob had attacked Mavoor police
station in Kozhikode and pelted stones against the officials. Whether it is
political clash or religious issue the victims of the clash will be the police
officials, said doctors involved in the survey.
The survey was conducted among officials belonging to Circle Inspector, Sub
Inspector, Assistant Sub Inspector, head constable and constable category as they
are worst affected by mental trauma. The higher police officials are excluded from
the survey as most of them get formal training in stress management during their IPS
training period. The low rank officials who join duty as Sub Inspector or constable
are highly affected by mental stress as they are not familiar with the methods of
stress management, said Dr. Mahroof Raj, the master mind behind the survey.

As per the information the data collected from around 500 cops have already been
entered into the computer and the remaining data entry and compilation will be
completed within two weeks.

The deficiency in stress management systems and lack of proper stress management
training programmes for police officials are learned to be the main reason for the
mounting of mental trauma among the cops. It is learned that the physical fitness of
the police officials are also collapsed owing to the mental trauma.
As per the information the IMA is planning to submit long term, short term and
midterm remedial measures for the cops. Besides, the study report would contain the
causes for mental trauma and the remedial measures to tackle stress.
IMA is also planning to conduct similar surveys in other parts of the state and even
in other states. We are also planning to conduct a similar survey in Kannur, one of
the most vulnerable places in the state where police officials feel the maximum
stress.

traffic police in high spirit

By K M Sree
Kozhikode, Feb 16:
The bill boards and hoardings which cause accident will atleast be removed from the premises of the schools in the city limit. The City Traffic Police have decided to remove all bill board and hoardings, following an order from the DGP in view of the shocking road accident that took the life of 10 school kids near Irikkur in Kannur district a few months back.
Many bill boards and hoardings erected in public places are creating problem for the drivers of various vehicles, as it prevents them from getting a clear view of the road from a distant place. The students who leave the school also find it difficult to see the vehicles owing to the presence of the boards. The boards will be removed completely before March 31.
The traffic police also convened a meeting of the Parents Teachers Association representatives of 160 schools in the city to decide up on the erecting of traffic signal boards near the schools. As per the present proposal, one board each will be erected by revenue department, education department, local self government and the PTA
Besides, the traffic police have also decided to expand the school traffic warden system. The students of 15 more schools in the city limit will be given training before the schools close for summer vacation. 50 students will be trained by the traffic police in charge of the area.
The traffic police have also instilled measures to give traffic controlling training to the members of residents associations in the city. The volunteers will be training on how to control traffic which will be useful for them to control the traffic during the peek hours.

misguiding bus passengers guides...

The screechy voice of the Corporation appointed bus passengers’ guides and the bus employees create mess for those who arrive at Moffusil and Palayam bus stands in Kozhikode city. The shrieks of the agents and the employees have reached the extent of threatening the passenger to board a bus.
The passengers’ guides, who have been appointed to help the passenger to find the vehicle that goes to the destination at the earliest, are now thwarting the freedom of the passenger to choose the vehicle they want to go. Similar scenes can also be witnessed in other bus stands including Vatakara, Koyilandi and Perambra.
``This is the bus that will leave first, so get into this one,’’ is a sentence that is used most commonly by the bus agents and employees to attract the commuters. But most of the time the passenger who board that particular bus will have to see more than two buses leaving the stand while their bus still rests in the bus way. Besides public, the buses of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation also fall prey to these agents as they force the passengers to get down of the KSRTC buses.
As the nuisance is more common in long distance buses the agents and employees of buses attract the passengers by offering seats to them. In many a case the passenger who board a bus wanting to get a seat will have to travel in standing as the bus would have left the station before they realise that there was no seat vacant in the bus.

FOR THE GOOD OF PATIENTS

After repeated demands and requests from the patients of Thalassemia and Hemophilia, Kerala State Blood Transfusion Council (BTC) has finally decided to initiate a survey to collect the details of the patients suffering from blood related diseases. This would enable the real victims of blood related diseases to get benefits from the government.
The long term demand of the associations of patients with blood related diseases to provide identity card for them would also be fulfilled after the survey. The patients of blood related diseases as well as their relatives have been demanding the government to issue ID card for past many years. With the ID card the patient who meets with some accidents will be able to get better treatment at the earliest. It will also help to get rail way concessions for the hemophilia patients.

The survey will find out the number of hemophilia, Thalassemia and Sickle cell anemia patients in the state and the reason why large number of cases are reported from norhth kerala.
The associations including Blood Patients Protection Council, Hemophilia society and other similar associations have been demanding for free treatment for patients who require repeated blood transfusion.
The survey will also include a study to find out the reason for the diseases and the possible interventions to help the patients. As blood related diseases are hereditary, marriage between relatives are noted as one reason for the disease and awareness programme on the spreading of the disease will also be conducted after a survey.

WORK BANK TOO.........

Giving a sigh of relief to the job less men and women in the district, the National Solidarity Foundation (NSF) is all set to begin a `Work Bank’ in Kozhikode. NSF has already sorted out different means of ensuring job to the immense number of jobless youth in the district.
People from all walks of life can register their names, without any registration fees, with NSF to get a job suited to their educational qualifications.
The Work Bank will have a list of registered job seekers and job providers. On getting a bio-data from a job seeker, the members of Work Bank will work as a bridge to connect the job seeker and provider.
What is unique about the Work Bank is its readiness to find job for both with high educational qualification and those with no educational back ground.
